You'll spot plenty of impressive motorhomes at Caravan Salon 2026, but one stand stands out in particular: Austrian specialist Action Mobil. The company has been building all-wheel-drive motorhomes since 1979 and is considered an absolute pioneer in the industry.
Sebastian checked out the current flagship model on site: the Global XRS 7400 Leopard 2.0. In a spontaneous, in-depth conversation, Stephan Wirths, managing director of Action Mobil, revealed what makes this extraordinary expedition vehicle so unique.
An impressive foundation and uncompromising off-road tech
Even at first glance, the vehicle looks gigantic, making everything around it seem tiny by comparison. It's built on a massive MAN 33.510 6x6 chassis with a hefty 510 hp. The expedition vehicle rolls on three axles and comes with full differential locks, low-range gearing, and a tire pressure control system.
With a total length of around 11 meters including the motorcycle lift mounted at the rear, a body length of roughly 7.50 meters, and a height of about 3.80 meters, the Leopard 2.0 is a true giant.
When it comes to weight, this motorhome also plays in a league of its own. While the chassis is rated for up to 33 tons, the permissible total weight for the show vehicle was reduced to 23 tons. With an unladen weight of around 19 tons, that leaves huge reserves for fuel, water, supplies, and gear.
To keep the massive torsional forces from rough terrain from transferring into the living area, Action Mobil relies on a special construction method: the living module is made from highly insulating GRP sandwich panels and rests on a decoupled subframe, mounted to flex independently on the chassis.
Interior & design: modern loft character on the road
Step inside and you instantly forget you're in a truck. The interior looks more like modern architecture or an upscale designer loft. Action Mobil goes for a reduced, purist design language.
White Corian surfaces and high-quality ceramics meet warm-toned afromosia wood and matte black fittings. The layout is precisely tailored to the needs of long-term travelers and world explorers.
Up front, a generous U-shaped seating area invites you to linger, and it quickly converts into an extra bed for guests when needed. High-quality upholstery gives it a genuine living-room feel.
The separate bedroom comes with comfort mattresses and a huge, electrically operated skylight that lets in plenty of daylight and opens up a view of the stars at night.
For extra peace of mind on every leg of the journey, real glass windows rise over three meters high, fitted with 20-millimeter safety glass. The entrance door, storage flaps, and furniture are also secured via central locking.
Gourmet kitchen and wellness bathroom, no compromises
The L-shaped designer kitchen lets you cook at the highest level, even on the road. An induction cooktop invisibly integrated into the countertop and a Miele oven with steam function leave nothing to be desired. For storage, extremely well-insulated fridge and freezer boxes custom-made by Action Mobil provide over 400 liters of combined volume.
A standout everyday feature is the Quooker tap. At the push of a button, it delivers not just boiling or cold water, but freshly sparkling drinking water straight from the vehicle's own tank. That saves on plastic waste and hauling bottles around.
The bathroom serves as a small wellness oasis on wheels. Alongside a Corian washbasin and a shower with a Corian floor, it features a built-in Physiotherm infrared back panel that provides soothing deep heat after long hikes.
For the toilet system, the manufacturer fits this model with a modern Corian dry-separating toilet with soft-close function and an extended urine tank of up to 40 liters, which makes disposal on the road much easier.
Self-sufficiency at expedition level: power, water, and heating
The Leopard 2.0 skips gas entirely. All appliances run on electricity or the diesel tank. Power comes from a 24-volt lithium-ion battery system with 920 Ah capacity, split across four independent blocks for maximum redundancy.
A 2,100-watt solar system sits on the roof. While driving, a 150-amp auxiliary alternator combined with electronic boosters recharges the batteries so quickly that average daily consumption is often replenished after barely an hour of driving.
Action Mobil leaves nothing to chance with the water supply either:
Water supply: The freshwater tank holds 500 liters, backed up by a 140-liter wastewater tank.
Drinking water treatment: Multi-stage filters (pre-filter, activated carbon), a mechanical disinfection system built to aviation standards, plus UV disinfection guarantee clean drinking water anywhere in the world. You can even collect and feed in rainwater via the 6×3 meter electric awning.
Heating & AC: A 10,000-watt diesel water heater powers the underfloor heating, wall-mounted radiators, and engine pre-heating system, delivering unlimited hot water. On hot days, an energy-efficient 24V split air conditioning unit keeps things cool.
Bottom line: real craftsmanship and custom extras
Every Action Mobil vehicle is hand-built as a one-off custom job in Saalfelden, Austria. That means the extras vary just as much: the show model on display featured, among other things, a pull-out mount in the rear storage compartment for a 32-kilo ceramic grill (Big Green Egg) and a full-size Miele washer-dryer inside.
Prices for the series start at around 1.4 million euros including VAT. The showcase vehicle displayed at Caravan Salon, with its extreme full equipment package, comes in at roughly 2.2 million euros.
That makes the Action Mobil Global XRS 7400 Leopard 2.0 no everyday rig, but a fascinating masterpiece for adventurers who want to explore the world's remotest corners without giving up top-tier luxury.
