4.30 meters, 4 sleeping spots, no gas on board: what can the Carpento 430 compact caravan do?

At the Caravan Salon 2026, it stood there in Retro Grey: the Carpento 430 D. A caravan with a rounded fiberglass body, a big panoramic front window, and a price tag that read, in bold letters at the bottom: "Ask us about your personal show price!"

The 430 is the largest model in Carpento's "New C-Series." The manufacturer is targeting families of four to five people. Inside, you get a bathroom with cassette toilet and shower tray, a kitchen with fridge, and — depending on the version — up to five sleeping spots. According to the price list, the base weight is around 750 kilos.

We took a closer look at version D. Here's why it's the most interesting option for many families, what's missing from the base price, and what you'll actually end up paying.

Who's behind Carpento?

Carpento Caravan comes from Turkey. The brand belongs to EGTA Endüstriyel Tasarım San. ve Tic. A.Ş., based in the industrial area of Bergama in Izmir province. For customers in the EU, there's a dedicated contact point: EGTA Industrial Design B.V.

In Germany, Müller Motors in Königswinter near Bonn sells the Carpento caravans. The dealership has carried the brand for a few years now, and its website lists prices going back to model year 2023. Besides sales, Müller Motors also offers a workshop, inspections (HU/AU), gas system checks and spare parts.

The lineup consists of two series: the C-Series with the 310, 360 and 410, and the "New C-Series" with the 330, 380 and 430. Base prices range from 19,780 to 24,990 euros.

The dimensions of the Carpento 430

According to the manufacturer, the 430 measures 450 centimeters long, 200 centimeters wide and 240 centimeters tall on the outside. The cabin itself measures 430 x 190 centimeters inside, with a standing height of 190 centimeters — enough for even taller adults to stand upright.

To be honest, the length figures left us a bit puzzled. A 430-centimeter cabin with only 20 extra centimeters including the drawbar just doesn't quite add up. The 430 likely refers to the body length as measured from outside. Best to ask your dealer for the exact overall length — for example if you're planning around a pitch, garage, or ferry booking.

The walls are made of fiberglass sandwich panels. The website states 33 millimeters, while the price list says 32 millimeters thick. The furniture is poplar plywood with a foil coating, and the handles work with a push-open mechanism.

A quick note on the numbers: Carpento's website lists the double beds as 140 x 190 centimeters in one place and 130 x 190 centimeters in another. The German price list also states four sleeping spots for the 430 S, while the website says five. Have the dimensions and sleeping spots explained or shown to you in person when viewing the caravan.

The 430 D: more wardrobe instead of bunk bed

In the D version, Carpento skips the upper bed at the rear. Overhead cabinets take its place instead. That leaves two double beds, each 140 x 190 centimeters, so four sleeping spots in total.

Who's this a good fit for? Families with two kids who don't need a bunk bed, or whose kids have already outgrown one. And couples who want a big caravan with plenty of room, but not five beds. Anyone traveling for two weeks with four people knows: luggage needs more space than a sleeping spot nobody's using.

At 499 euros, the upgrade is a modest surcharge. That said, 190 centimeters of bed length is tight for tall adults. If you're over 1.85 meters, it's worth lying down for a test at a trade show or dealer.

Kitchen, bathroom and technical features

The kitchen: sink yes, stove no

If you want to cook inside, you order a EU-compliant (ECWVTA-certified) gas installation with stove and sink for 849 euros. The manufacturer's website lists this as a single-burner cooktop-sink combo with a glass cover. Alternatively, you bring along a cartridge stove and cook outside. The advantage of going gas-free: you skip the gas inspection.

The show vehicle had the larger 85-liter fridge (Indel-B CR85) for an extra 395 euros. For four people, we'd go for that one too.

The bathroom

The bathroom has a Thetford cassette toilet, an acrylic shower tray, and a sink with a shower fitting. That's enough for brushing your teeth, nighttime bathroom trips, and a quick shower.

There's no boiler as standard. For an extra charge, you can get a 5-liter Truma Therme (490 euros) for hot water. It only runs on 230 volts, though, so you need shore power. The freshwater tank holds 40 liters as standard; a 70-liter tank costs 349 euros extra. With four people and a shower on board, we'd recommend going for the bigger tank.

Power and heating

As standard, it comes with a 50 Ah AGM battery and a 10-amp charger. You should only discharge an AGM battery to about half its capacity, so you've really only got around 25 Ah to work with. Depending on the outside temperature, a 12-volt compressor fridge can easily draw 30 Ah a day. In other words: without shore power, the battery is empty in less than a day.

If you often camp off-grid, you'll want the upgrades: a 120 Ah LiFePO4 battery (690 euros) and a 190-watt solar system (890 euros).

A heater isn't included as standard. You can choose between a 2 kW diesel parking heater from Webasto or Eberspächer (1,249 euros) or the Ecomat 2000 heating cube for 230 volts (399 euros). For summer, Truma air conditioning units are available from 2,590 euros.

Also on board: two 230-volt sockets, a 12-volt socket with two USB ports, LED lighting with reading lamps, water and battery level displays, a CEE external power connection, double-glazed windows with insect screens and blackout blinds, one 40 x 40 cm roof hatch and one 28 x 28 cm roof hatch (with fan), plus an awning rail.

What does the Carpento 430 D really cost?

The base price of the 430 is 24,990 euros. The show vehicle had a price list attached, which we're showing you here exactly as it was:

On top of that come the €1,990 for transport, paperwork, and handover. These costs aren't optional. So if you're reading "from €24,990," a 430 D with no further extras will actually run you at least €27,479.

As mentioned above, the show model also lacks a stove, heater, and a battery you can rely on for longer stretches without shore power. So we crunched the numbers on a slightly "pimped-up" version that'll actually get you through the off-season and off-grid without hassle:

Around 33,000 euros for a family caravan with bathroom, heating, and solar isn't a bargain compared to the market, but it's not overpriced either.

Is the Carpento 430 D suitable for electric cars?

Sort of. The weight looks fine, but the aerodynamics probably don't.

The 430 comes as standard on a braked AL-KO chassis with a permitted total weight of 1,000 kilos, 13-inch wheels, shock absorbers, and approval for 100 km/h towing. So your car needs at least 1,000 kilos of braked towing capacity — ideally a bit more as a buffer. You'll find that figure in your vehicle registration under O.1. Many electric SUVs and mid-range EVs can handle it, but smaller electric cars often can't.

For 790 euros, you can get the maxi chassis with 1,350 kilos. That gives you around 600 kilos of payload. But then your car needs the matching towing capacity, too.

And then there's the aerodynamics. At 200 centimeters wide and 240 centimeters tall, the 430 sticks out noticeably above almost every car. The rounded shape helps a bit, but your range on the highway will still drop noticeably. Plan for more charging stops.

One plus for EV drivers: the 430 comes gas-free as standard. If you also choose the diesel heater, you won't need a gas bottle on board at all.

What to watch out for when buying

• Check the standard equipment: No stove, no heater, no water heater, small battery. → Factor in the extras right from the start, or you'll be cold in spring and left in the dark fast without shore power.

• Factor in the extra costs: There's always an extra 1,990 euros for transport, paperwork, and handover. → Ask whether the COC document and the 100 km/h registration are included.

• Check on service: The dealer is based in Königswinter near Bonn. → If you live further away, ask beforehand where warranty work and repairs can be done.

My verdict: Who is the Carpento 430 D right for?

The 430 D is a caravan for families with two kids and for couples who want plenty of room and storage but don't need a bunk bed. It has a bathroom, 190 cm of standing height, and a big panoramic window at the front. It's built from GRP sandwich instead of a wooden frame, which isn't a given in this price range.

As always, check the base price carefully. Without a stove, heating, or a better battery, the 430 is really a summer caravan for campsites with mains power hook-up. If you want to use it in the colder months and/or off-site, you'll quickly end up around 33,000 euros.
