The outdoor equipment manufacturer Stanley, known for its high-quality thermo mugs and camping equipment, has launched a voluntary recall for certain models of its Travel Mugs.
The Switchback and Trigger Action cups are affected. Customers who are in possession of an affected cup are urgently requested to stop using it immediately.
Stanley is conducting the recall in cooperation with the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC). According to the CPSC’s press release, 91 reports have been received – 38 of which involved burn injuries.
The reason for the measure is a safety problem with the lid: according to the manufacturer, the threads of the lid can warp when exposed to heat and torque, which means that the lid no longer closes securely. This poses a risk of injury from hot liquids.
To check whether their own thermo mug is affected, customers should check the product identification number on the underside of the mug. The recall relates to the following product identification numbers:
Product name | Volume | Product identification number |
---|---|---|
Switchback | 0,35 l (12 ounces) | 20-01437 |
Switchback | 0.45 l (16 ounces) | 20-01436, 20-02211 |
Trigger Action | 0,35 l (12 ounces) | 20-02033, 20-02779, 20-02825 |
Trigger Action | 0.47 l (16 ounces) | 20-02030, 20-02745, 20-02957 |
Trigger Action | 0,59 l (20 ounces) | 20-02034, 20-02746 |
A free replacement solution is available: Owners of the above models can register for a free replacement lid. Registration takes place via the Stanley 1913 Lid Recall page – where there is also a graphic showing where the product identification number can be found.
The Stanley brand is particularly popular among campers, as the durability and high quality of its outdoor products speaks for itself. This is precisely why the recall is likely to be relevant for some campers.
