Camping in Croatia 2025: higher tolls and no e-vignette yet

Anyone traveling to Croatia this camping season must continue to expect long traffic jams at the toll booths, as the introduction of the e-vignette and the barrier-free payment system has been delayed by a year.

However, it is already getting more expensive: toll prices have risen by around 10 percent compared to the previous year.

Toll charges rise by almost 10 percent

What Croatia has been charging as a kind of summer surcharge in recent years - namely the higher toll prices during the peak travel period (July to September) - will be added on from this year.

This applies to motorhomes, caravans, cars and motorcycles - heavy vehicles are excluded. You can expect toll charges to be around 10 percent higher than in 2024. There will no longer be an extra summer surcharge.

Introduction of the e-vignette delayed

The Croatian freeway network covers almost 1,300 kilometers of road - and is completely subject to tolls. The toll is calculated depending on the route and must be paid on the relevant sections of highway - as there is currently no highway vignette.

The start date for the new toll system in Croatia was originally planned for this year - now the year 2026 is on the agenda. According to current reports, there will be an e-vignette in the new system, and the option of one (or more) toll box(es) will continue to be offered.

A toll box is to become mandatory for the billing of truck tolls. One of the aims of the new, barrier-free system is to counteract the miles of traffic jams during the peak season and to make paying the toll more convenient.
