What does “CKE” mean?
CKE stands for Camping Key Europe and is a camping card that serves as an identity card, discount and advantage card.
What does the Camping Key Europe Card include?
In principle, all discount cards are somewhat similar. What they all have in common, however, is that you get financial benefits when camping. Nevertheless, not all cards are the same. Some of these “little passengers” offer even more advantages than just saving money. Camping Key Europe is no exception.
Discounts with the Camping Key Europe when staying overnight
Let’s start with the financial benefits: You can save up to 20% on the rental price (depending on the site and season). And not just at the 2,800 or so campsites listed in Europe! Some motorhome pitches and rental accommodation also take part in the permanent discount campaigns. In this case, permanent does not mean that all participating campsites and pitches offer the Camping Key Europe discounts all year round, but one or two vacation homes are prepared to do so.
The amount of the discount varies depending on the season and campsite. Some campsite operators don’t offer you a percentage discount on the normal price, but give you the overnight stay for 2 people, the parking space for your vehicle, one shower per person per day, electricity supply up to 5 kWh and, if applicable, the fee for your dog at a special low rate. The price of this option also depends on the campsite and the time of year.
The discounts apply to the entire travel group of the vehicle. Up to 3 friends of grandchildren or children can also camp at special prices.
Camping Key Europe as proof of identity
Now we come to the advantages that not every camping discount card offers. The Camping Key Europe serves at the same time as a savings companion as a substitute for an ID card. Practical for anyone who prefers to keep their passport and ID card in their pocket to avoid any complications that may arise later.
Camping Key Europe as insurance cover
Camping Key Europe also includes a practical insurance package. And this is where it gets really interesting! This is because the insurance package is not just a simple liability insurance policy. No, Camping Key Europe includes the following insurance cover:
- Liability insurance
- Accident insurance
- Legal expenses insurance
The insurance cover applies not only to you as the owner, but to all persons traveling with you in the same vehicle. It doesn’t matter whether it’s your partner, your children, grandchildren or friends of your children. All that matters is that they are passengers in your vehicle when you arrive.
How much does the Camping Key Europe cost?
The Camping Key Europe costs €18 and is valid for one year. Savings tip: Camping Key Europe costs only €12/year for ADAC members.
Where can I get the Camping Key Europe Card?
Now you want to know where you can buy the discount card, don’t you? There are various ways to acquire a “CKE”:
- As an ADAC member you can either online by phone (0 800 5 10 11 12) or directly at one of the ADACoffices. Delivery takes place within 7 working days of the order being placed. But don’t panic, if you are a little late with your order, you can receive a provisional “CKE” within 3-5 days of purchase and start saving immediately.
- You can obtain the card from the Federal Association of the Camping Industry in Germany (BVCD) for €18, regardless of membership. You can find all further information here at BVCD.
- Official Scandinavian camping portals also offer the CKE, such as Norway: camping.no, Finland: camping.fi and Sweden: camping.se
In which countries is the Camping Key Europe Card valid?
You will find campsites all over Europe that accept your Camping-Key-Europe. So the name says it all. There are 24 countries in total. You will probably find most of the participating campsites and pitches in Germany. But even in Scandinavia, Belgium, Portugal, the Netherlands, Italy, Spain and many other countries, you can find the right campsite with the CKE. You can find a list of participating places here.

Further discounts with the Camping Key Europe Card
- Camping Key Europe cooperates with Campingaz, a manufacturer of products that are all related to cooking on a gas stove. As a Camping Key Europe holder, you receive a 10% discount in the Campingaz online store on all items offered by this manufacturer.
- As a Camping Key Europe Card holder, Megasat offers you a 3% discount on the purchase of Megasat products.
- The ADAC Online Shop Camping offers a 10% discount on the entire camping range and free delivery.
The validity of the CKE
The Camping Key Europe is valid for one year and does not renew automatically. However, it is possible to order the connection card in advance.
It is imperative that you sign the back of your personalized Camping Key Europe Card! It is also important to add your ID number. This is the only way to ensure that you are granted all the benefits, including proof of identity. If you do not do this, no campsite operator is obliged to do so. So, don’t forget! It is best to present your CKE directly at reception on arrival. In retrospect, the groundsman may no longer accept your card. The Camping Key Europe is not transferable. This means that the discount card is only valid if you are present as the owner.
