Have you ever wondered why your chosen campsite is so expensive and yet so busy? One of the possible answers is quite simple – discount cards! And this article is about one of these popular discount cards: The CCI – What’s that supposed to be? Welcome to the jungle of abbreviations!

What does “CCI” mean and what is behind it?

The CCI is the Camping Card International. Similar to the ACSI Card, the CCI is a discount card that gives you discounts at many campsites. But the discounts granted by European campsites in both the low and high seasons are not the only advantages of the little companion.

What does the CCI include?

On the one hand, the CCI Camping Card gives you up to 40% discount on 3,098 campsites in more than 40 countries. The CCI applies in both the high and low seasons.

The card also offers you two other considerable advantages over other discount cards: firstly, as a CCI holder, you are covered by international liability insurance during your stay at the campsite, in a rented accommodation or in a hotel.

On the other hand, it serves as international proof of identity. You must provide your personal details when applying for the discount card. You will find these later on your CCI Camping Card. A big advantage – this proof is often required before you are allowed to check into your vacation home. If you have your CCI with you, you can leave it with the campsite operator, hotelier or landlord as an adequate replacement for your valuable ID documents. Not bad at all! Because if you lose your passport, leaving the country becomes quite complicated.

How do you get a CCI and how much does it cost?

The CCI is published by the three main international associations:

  • the FICC (Fédération Internationale de Camping et de Caravanning),
  • AIT (Alliance Internationale de Tourisme) and
  • of the FIA (Fédération Internationale de l’Automobile).

The CCI with membership

In Germany, you can obtain the card from various providers. However, membership of one of the following associations is advantageous in terms of price for the issue of the CCI.

If you take out a membership with the AvD (Automobile Club of Germany) or the DCC (German Camping Club), you will receive the CCI at a particularly attractive price.

As a DCC member, the CCI costs €8 for adults and children pay €5.20 per year – plus postage.(Price status February 2024 at the DCC).

CCI insurance cover applies to your entire travel company. This covers you plus 10 other people. But be careful: The protection only lasts as long as you are there.

CCI without membership

With some clubs, such as the AvD, you can also take out the CCI without membership. As a non-member of the AvD, you pay €8 plus a fee. Shipping costs. As an AvD member, you save a whole €3 and pay just €5 a year.

You can fill out the CCI application online or have it sent to you by post.

How long is the CCI CampingCard valid for?

Once you have your CCI Card in your hands, it is valid as long as you pay the annual contributions.

In which countries are there campsites where the CCI is effective?

During the long research for this section, I kept getting lost in the maze of countries. It seems to me that almost every European country has at least one campsite that accepts the CCI. And not just as proof of identity.

Some site owners offer a 5% discount on the stay, others up to 40%. You can find out whether your chosen campsite accepts the CCI on the website www.campingcardinternational.com using the search function and many different search filters.

I have good news for all Scandinavia fans: while in recent years the CCI was not accepted unconditionally by all campsite owners in Denmark, Norway or Sweden, there are now plenty of campsites where you can get big discounts of up to 25 % with the CCI.

What else you should know about the CCI

It is essential that all, really ALL the required data is noted on your CCI. In some countries, such as Italy, campsite owners are obliged to enter the details of their vacation guests in a register. If you do not provide all the data, the groundsman may not accept your CCI as proof of identity and may not grant any discounts, depending on his mood. So despite your discount card, you pay the full accommodation price and still have to leave your valuable passport as ID at reception. I’m sure that’s not what you want.

Are there alternatives to CCI?

Definitely! The CCI is just one of many camping discount cards. The offers from the competition are also not to be sneezed at. Conclusion on the CCI Camping Card

Is the CCI the right camping discount card for you? Only you can make this decision. This is because it depends primarily on your requirements for such a map and your travel ideas. I personally think that the price-performance ratio is attractive and the advantages of the CCI are very appealing. Because it’s not just the discounts, but in particular the proof of identity and the integrated liability insurance that make the CCI valuable for your stay abroad.
