Are you planning a road trip soon and don’t feel like lugging around gas bottles and constantly looking for exchange stations? Then you should think about installing a gas tank bottle. In the video “Gas tank bottle in motorhomes and caravans” you will find out everything you need to know about the topic. Our guest Andreas Irmer, trained mechanical engineer, gas expert and owner of autarker.de* answers questions and explains the essentials about gas in caravans and motorhomes.
The gas tank cylinder is a gas pressure container that you can fill yourself with gas at an LPG filling station using a refueling hose. The gas tank cylinder is an ideal solution, especially if you travel a lot. In Europe, you can fill up with gas almost anywhere and are therefore not dependent on finding an exchange station for your gas bottle. There is a fill level indicator at the top between the valves so that you can always see how much gas you have left. An 80 % fill stop is also integrated so that there is no risk of overfilling.
When installing, you should note that the gas tank bottle must be installed correctly. This means that it must not be possible to remove it without tools. The reason for this is that the cylinder must be in an upright position when refueling. Otherwise, the filling stop will not work and, in Germany at least, it is not permitted to fill portable, i.e. not permanently mounted, gas pressure tanks. Ideally, your gas tank bottle should fit into the gas box, as this is both gas-tight to the interior and has the appropriate ventilation openings.
