Background and changes
Until now, the use of gas tank cylinders in motorhomes has been characterized by legal ambiguities. However, various bodies and committees have been actively working on harmonizing the regulations in recent months.

Andres Irmer explains that a final decision can be expected by the end of the year. One of the key innovations will be that gas tank cylinders must be easy to remove in future without the use of tools. This is to be ensured by star screws and a quick-release coupling in the refueling hose.
A significant reason for these changes is the Gas Association's requirement for firefighters to be able to remove cylinders quickly in an emergency. Although this is seen as a precautionary measure, it is a step towards increased safety for campers.
Outlook and recommendations
The harmonization of the rules will create a clear and uniform line that should provide orientation for both customers and retailers in the future. The new rule could come into force as early as the end of this year or the beginning of next year. Campers can then be sure that no unexpected problems will arise during the gas test.
Andreas Irmer advises campers to find out about these upcoming changes and to keep an eye on the conversion process. In particular, external refueling will be mandatory in the future, which means that certain adjustments to existing systems may be necessary.
