Under €60,000 with Isofix, shower and garage: Benimar's new Kaleo lineup (2027)

The Spanish motorhome manufacturer Benimar unveiled its completely new lineup for the 2027 season at this year's Caravan Salon: Kaleo consists of one alcove model and three semi-integrated models, with the cheapest model starting at under €60,000 and featuring things on board you wouldn't expect in this price range. Here's an overview of all four floor plans.

What is Kaleo?

Kaleo isn't a facelift or a special edition — it's a brand-new family within the Benimar lineup. The Spanish manufacturer unveiled it at Caravan Salon 2026 in Düsseldorf. Four models belong to it:

  • K625: alcove model for families

  • K640: compact semi-integrated at 630 cm

  • K663: semi-integrated with single beds

  • K695: semi-integrated with queen bed

All four are built on the Citroën chassis with a 2.2-liter diesel engine and 140 hp, all stick to a 3.5-ton maximum gross weight and a 2,000 kg towing capacity. And they all share a few things I really like: Isofix at the dinette seats, a pull-out table, a separate shower, and a rear garage with automotive-grade locks.

Benimar describes the goal of the lineup as a "balanced ratio between dimensions, comfort and equipment." Translation: solid floor plans for little money.

Kaleo K625: the family alcove model

The K625 wasn't on display in Düsseldorf — it wasn't exhibited. For families, though, it's still the most exciting model in the lineup.

Above the cab sits an alcove bed measuring 155 by 203 cm. That's a large double bed that's always ready to use — no lift-up mechanism, no setup required. In the rear is a bunk bed for the kids, and the lower bunk can be removed. That turns the kids' room into a bigger garage. I think that's clever, because the vehicle can grow with you as the kids get older or stop coming along.

At 94 by 126 cm, the garage doors are the largest in the lineup. The downside: a height of 310 cm. That's a good 20 cm more than the semi-integrated models. Keep that in mind with underground parking garages and low clearances.

And one more point I bring up with every family alcove model: weight. Four or five people with luggage, bikes and a full water tank can quickly push a 3.5-ton vehicle to its limit. Benimar hasn't published a ready-to-drive weight yet. Make sure to get the payload in writing from the dealer.

Kaleo K640: everything you need in 6.30 meters

The K640 is the smallest model and, for me, the surprise of the lineup. In 630 cm, you get an Isofix seating area, a pull-out table, a bathroom with a separate shower, a lift-up bed, and a large rear garage. That's usually what you'd find in vehicles half a meter longer.

At 630 cm, it fits on almost any campsite pitch and in the cheaper length category on many ferries. According to the spec sheet, four people can ride belted in, and there are four sleeping spots as well.

One thing I'd check before buying: the spec sheet lists the rear bed at 210 cm long but only 87/75 cm wide. That seems very tight for two people. Definitely try it out in person before deciding.

Kaleo K663: single beds and L-shaped kitchen

At 745 cm, the K663 is the longest model. In the rear are two single beds measuring 76 by 188 cm and 76 by 190 cm, while a lift-up bed measuring 140/120 by 190 cm hangs above the seating area. The kitchen is L-shaped, giving you more counter space. The bathroom has a separate shower.

Single beds are the floor plan of choice for couples who travel a lot and for extended periods. Everyone can get up without waking the other. At 188 or 190 cm in length, though, taller people should try the beds out in person.

My favorite detail: the garage has 230V and 12V power outlets. The doors measure 84 by 111 cm on both sides, with up to 118 cm of height inside. According to promobil, the K663 starts at €58,990. For this floor plan, that's a very affordable entry point.

Kaleo K695: queen bed instead of single beds

The K695 has a 150 cm wide bed in the rear that's accessible from both sides. There's also a lift-up bed measuring 140/95 by 190 cm, an L-shaped kitchen, and a separate shower. If you'd rather sleep together than side by side in separate beds, this is the one for you.

That comes at a cost, and it's the garage. The doors measure just 58 by 91 cm, with 79 cm of height inside. Chairs, a table and a grill fit in, but bikes probably won't. If you travel with bikes, you'll need a rear bike rack.

Technology: What all Kaleo models have in common

Heating comes from a Webasto diesel heater (4,000 W), while hot water is provided by a gas boiler. I think that's a smart setup: the heater draws from the vehicle's fuel tank, so the gas bottle lasts longer. That matters, because there's only room for one 11 kg aluminum bottle in the gas locker.

The tanks hold 100 to 105 liters of fresh water and 105 liters of wastewater. A 6-speed manual comes as standard, and Benimar offers an automatic as an option for the K625 and K695. 140 hp on a vehicle up to 7.45 meters long feels more relaxed than sporty. If you often drive through the mountains, it's worth asking about alternatives.

The OnRoad Pack: Do you need it?

According to promobil, the package costs around 6,000 euros. It includes:

  • Thunder Grey metallic paint, 16-inch alloy wheels, body-colored bumpers, black skid plate, fog lights with cornering function

  • swiveling and adjustable cab seats, cab window blinds

  • Dometic D-Lux double-glazed windows, LED exterior light, awning

  • pre-wiring for a reversing camera and second battery

  • depending on the model: an electric pop-up bed and a 150-liter compressor fridge

My take: go for it. Swivel seats, double-glazed windows, and an awning aren't just nice extras in everyday use, and the large compressor fridge really makes a difference down south. On the K640, the seating area gets cramped fast without swivel seats.

How much does the Kaleo cost?

According to promobil, the lineup starts under 60,000 euros, with the K663 priced from 58,990 euros. With the OnRoad Pack, prices range between 62,000 and 67,000 euros. Individual prices for the K625, K640, and K695 weren't available at the time of publication.

For a new semi-integrated model with a separate shower, Isofix, and garage, that's a strong statement. The real question is how the build quality holds up in daily use. With a brand-new lineup, that's something we simply can't judge yet.

Are the Kaleo models suitable for e-mobility?

There's no electric drive option — all Kaleo models run on diesel. That leaves two questions.

E-bikes: here, the K625 and K663 are your best bets. The K625 has the largest garage doors, while the K663 has a 230V socket in the garage. That means you can charge the batteries right where the bikes are stored. On the K695, bikes barely fit in the garage at all.

Bringing an electric car: with a towing capacity of 2,000 kg, that's going to be tough. Many small EVs already weigh 1.3 to 1.5 tons, and then there's the car trailer on top. Plus, for a 3.5-ton motorhome with a heavy trailer, you'll need a BE driving license. Do the math carefully, including the maximum permitted combined weight.

Conclusion: Which Kaleo suits whom?

  • K625: for families who want a fixed bed for the parents and a fixed bed for the kids

  • K640: for anyone who wants to travel compact without giving up a shower and garage

  • K663: for couples on long tours who want single beds and plenty of storage space

  • K695: for couples who value a large double bed more than a big garage
