I have always wanted to see a moose in the wild, admire crystal-clear mountain lakes and marvel at the colorful Northern Lights. Which destination are we talking about here?
Exactly, about Norway. The country in the far north is known for its impressive nature. And this is exactly what attracts thousands of vacationers there every year.
If you’re planning a trip to Norway, this article might be just the thing for you. You won’t find out anything about specific destinations here, but you will learn how to find them using mobile internet.
To help you stay connected in Norway, I’ve put together a few offers for you below.

Norwegian prepaid SIM cards at a glance
Although Norway is located in Europe, it is not part of the EU. Nevertheless, this does not mean that you cannot use your tariff there. The popular vacation destination is part of the EEA – the European Economic Area – and is therefore subject to EU roaming regulations, meaning that no roaming charges apply.
However, if you are staying in Norway for a longer period of time or are using a tariff at home without EU roaming, it may well make sense to get a Norwegian prepaid SIM card.
Telia
One possible option is the provider “Telia “. The main focus of this provider is not necessarily on the so-called “Kontantkort” tariffs, i.e. prepaid offers, but rather on subscriptions. Nevertheless, there is a data SIM card for surfing, which has a minimum term of 30 days. These are“Kontant Startpakke“.
The tariff includes 250 MB data volume and is valid for 14 days. The starter package is priced at NOK 99. This is the equivalent of €8.80. Not exactly a bargain!
Telia Kontant Startpakke
- Price: 99 NOK / approx. 8,80 €
- Tariff duration: 14 days
- Included national data volume: 250 MB
- Download speed: LTE
- Free minutes / free SMS: not available
Roaming: not available
Telenor
Continue with “Telenor “. This provider is currently revising the website for the prepaid tariffs. Therefore, no information can be viewed there. However, it appears that all subscriptions can be canceled on a monthly basis.
Chilimobile
Finally, let’s take a look at the provider“Chilimobil“. There is also an interesting offer here. This apparently does not have a name. It is simply the“Chilimobil Kontantkort“.
If your data SIM card is activated, you have the option of booking a data package via the MinChili app. Here you have the choice between:
- 1 GB for NOK 79 (€7.02),
- 3 GB for NOK 149 (€13.24),
- 6 GB for NOK 219 (€19.46) and
10 GB for NOK 299 (€26.57).
As usual, the booked data volume is valid for 30 days. If you do not book a data package, you can still use the Internet, but at different conditions.
The maximum daily price for data usage is NOK 15, i.e. €1.33. For this price, you have 300 MB of high-speed data per day at your disposal. Calculated over 30 days, you only get 9 GB for €39.90. So if you need a lot of data volume, it makes perfect sense to book one of the data packages.
Chilimobil Kontantkort
- Tariff duration: 30 days
- Included national data volume: 1 GB / 3 GB / 6 GB / 10 GB (with booked data package)
- Download speed: LTE
- Free minutes / free SMS: not available
Roaming: available in the EEA / EU
travSIM
Another option is the provider travSIM, which offers international prepaid cards for travelers. You can have the SIM card delivered to your home before you start your journey. Within the EU, the delivery time is 2–5 days.
The tariffs are not just data tariffs; telephony within the EU is also included. For 10 GB and calls, you pay €29.99 for one month. If you are in Norway for two months, there is the option to buy a SIM card for two months. The cost here is €49.99.
The SIM cards can be ordered directly from travSIM or on Amazon:

Buy a Norwegian prepaid SIM card
As is now the case almost everywhere, SIM registration is mandatory in Norway. This means that you must enter and verify your personal data when purchasing the SIM card. So don’t forget to have your ID or passport to hand.
The SIM cards from Telia and Telenor are available in the provider stores, some supermarkets and electronics stores. Chilimobil’s Kontantkort is unfortunately only available to order online. However, you will be asked for a Norwegian social security number.
Network coverage in Norway
According to the respective providers, coverage in Norway is good to very good. Depending on the region and circumstances, up to 300 mbit/s are available. Unfortunately, I was unable to find precise information on specific regions or a network coverage map from any provider.
Conclusion on prepaid SIM cards in Norway
In Norway, it doesn’t seem to be the trend to use prepaid tariffs. Accordingly, all Norwegian mobile providers apparently only offer a single option each.
In terms of data packages, only the provider Chilimobil is more or less up to date. What also struck me as negative was once again the internet presence of all providers.
For me and anyone else who doesn’t speak Norwegian, it takes a lot of effort and the help of a translation tool to find out all the important information about the tariffs. It’s not easy for me to draw a conclusion here, but if I had to choose one card, my choice would clearly be “Chilimobil”.
As the only provider with the option to book a data package, it has the edge, and I was unable to find an adequate or at least comparably priced alternative during my research.

tip

▶▶ My tip for savers: Due to Norway’s EEA membership, it still makes the most sense in my opinion to buy a cheap data SIM, for example from Aldi, Lidl or Co. and book a data package at moderate prices.
I hope I can help you with this article and wish you a good connection and a great vacation in Norway.
