2001 E22SS PIU!: Camping rethought - futuristic and somewhat bizarre

Are you looking for accommodation that is off the beaten track? Then take a look at the 2001 E22SS PIU! – the Esch 22 Space Station. This mobile pop-up hotel is less of a classic caravan and more of a manifesto on wheels.

It is designed to stand in unusual places – on an urban industrial wasteland, in the middle of a lively city park or perhaps even in a remote field with a panoramic view. There are virtually no limits to the imagination here.

A rolling field of experimentation

E22SS PIU! is a pendant that transforms into a futuristic dwelling. Inside this futuristic stainless steel structure, the room is transformed into an extraordinary dwelling at the touch of a button.

Measuring just under 10 m x 2.5 m, a surprisingly functional space unfolds, accommodating an inviting entrance area, a compact kitchen, a minimalist bathroom and a cozy dining area.

However, the real highlight is hidden on the upper floor: a staircase and elevator lead up to a circular room with an impressive diameter of nine meters.

This room, which is lined with warm cork, is crowned by a translucent, inflatable dome that floods the interior with daylight. Up to six people can spend the night here on comfortable air mattresses and admire the starry sky.

Resource conservation as a well thought-out concept

The developers of the 2001 E22SS PIU! have given intensive consideration to the issue of resource conservation and developed a well thought-out concept. The station is designed in such a way that fresh water is used sparingly, grey water is treated and reused for toilet flushing. In addition, instead of heating the entire volume, only a local area is heated in order to save energy.

A statement, not a mass product

With a proud price tag of over 500,000 euros, the 2001 E22SS PIU! is anything but a bargain. It is aimed at individualists who value exceptional design and innovative concepts.

It is a thought-provoking project that explores the boundaries of camping and raises the question of how we want to travel and live in the future. If you are looking for conventional camping comfort, you probably won’t find it here.

E22SS PIU! is a statement, an art project on wheels and an unusual answer to the question of flexible accommodation that consciously challenges conventions.

This quirky vehicle was created in the heart of Esch-sur-Alzette under the auspices of 2001 s.àr.l. It remains to be seen whether this type of camping will catch on – but it is certainly inspiring and fascinating. The only question is who is prepared to pay the price for this extraordinary experience.
